"I had read the book long back when the idea of making a film didn't even occur to me," said Sanjoy commenting on his choice of the novel.
"It was sometime in the year 1998 and that is why people are not getting the book in the market. It has not been reprinted since then," he said.
Moreover, Tollywood stars Rituparna Sengupta and Paoli Dam share the screen space for the first time in the film.
Besides, Bangladeshi actor Rubel has been handpicked by Sanjoy for playing the lead role of Rudra and that of his friend 'Gopal' is being played by Bratya Basu.
The cast includes three child actors, including Soham, known for his role in the film 'Chaplin'.
"I would love to see more and more Bangladeshi movies screened here in Bengal and the vice versa as well and I have been speaking to Bratya on the issue too," said Rubel speaking on the lack of market for exchange of cinema between the two 'Bengals'.
'Parapar' revolves around the story of a convict Rudra who returns to his wife Urmila (Paoli) and two children after 14 years and the hardships the couple had to undergo that ultimately changes the equation of their relationship.
Rudra is the man who allegedly killed his friend and raped his wife Damini (Rituparna), who now lives with her physically challenged son Amit.
"Urmila's struggle for survival despite the fact that she is not compatible with her father-like or rather elder-brother-like husband in the backdrop of the fact that she could not marry the man of her choice, is what touched me the most in the script," says Paoli answering to why she signed the film.
The film will tentatively release in and around March this year.
