World League: England beat India 2-0

New Delhi, Jan 10 : India started their World League Final campaign in a dismal note as the home side was defeated by England here on Friday.

World number four England beat the home side 2-0.

England's Adam Dixon scored once in each half to ensure the visitors a win in the opening match.

Both the goals were scored from penalty corners.

Dixon scored in the 28th and on the 45th minute of the match.

12 minutes from time, the home side scored but the goal was disallowed after a successful referral by the opponents.

Speaking on the win England coach Bobby Crutchley was quoted as saying by Hockey India website: "First half was a bit rusty but in the second half the boys caught on and starting making the right passes. We restricted their chances of converting the penalty corners."

In another Pool A match, Germany beat New Zealand 6-1.

Australia defeated Belgium 3-2 in a Pool B match while Argentina beat Netherlands 5-2.

India will face New Zealand on Saturday. England on the other hand will face Germany on the same day.
