Ranji: Bengal lead Railways by 136 runs

Kolkata, Jan 10 : A gutsy unbeaten knock of 63 by Bengal skipper Laxmi Ratan Shukla helped the home side post a remarkable fight back against Railways as the home side are ahead of the visitors by 136 runs at the end of third day of the quarter final clash of the Ranji Trophy here on Friday.

Bengal ended the day at 133 for four with Shukla (63) and Wriddhiman Saha (30) remaining unbeaten at the crease.

After bowling out Railways for 314, taking a slender lead of three runs, Bengal had a dismal beginning as they lost four quick wickets.

Abhimanyu Easwaran (0), Arindam Das (5), Subhomoy Das (19) and Sudip Chatterjee (8) were all back in the pavilion with Bengal struggling at 36 for four.

Shukla's gutsy knock helped Bengal fight back on the third day after initial jolts.

Anureet Singh shined with the ball for the visitors as he picked up three wickets by giving away 41 runs in his 19 overs.

Resuming the day at 233 for five, Railways first innings came to an end at 314 runs.

Bengal pacer Ashok Dinda bowled a charismatic spell of 105 for six to finish the Railways batting line up.

Arindam Ghosh played a gutsy knock of 97 runs while Mahesh Rawat remained the top scorer with his 119 runs.

Ghosh was dismissed by Dinda, three short of a deserving century.

Bengal had scored 317 runs in their first innings.

Players from both the sides were engaged in heated exchange of words on Friday.

Few spectators who were present in the stadium also booed Railways skipper Murali Kartik.
