Foreign secretary releases latest 'India in Business' edition

New Delhi, Jan 10 : Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh Friday released the latest edition of 'India in Business', a publication of the ministry of external affairs aimed at providing information about the country's economic potential for those interested in doing business with India.


The publication would be distributed to all the Indian missions and posts abroad for further dissemination among foreign investors and business.

Speaking at the event, the foreign secretary said: "Countries recognise economic diplomacy as part of their statecraft, and India has never been an exception to this.

"In this changing world of inter-connectivity and interdependency with various global players striving to influence the outcome of economic relationships, economic diplomacy continues to plays a central role in how the external affairs ministry interacts with the world."

This year's edition gives an overview of the Indian economy and provides information on 25 promising sectors of the Indian economy, including a 'Useful Web Links' section at the back of the booklet as a ready reference of important websites related to investment, economic and commercial work.

The publication offers information on tax and regulatory aspects and also covers the legal, administrative and compliance aspects of FDI. The ministry has worked in conjunction with KPMG, which has provided the content and the design for the publication, a statement said.

In order to cater to larger target base of those interested in doing business with India, the publication is to be brought out in 10 foreign languages, including Spanish, Chinese and French.

The ministry's Investment & Technology Promotion (ITP) division gives a definite direction and focus to the economic diplomacy strategy.

It works closely with Indian Missions abroad and government ministries/departments and state governments as the nodal division for facilitation of India's trade, investment, technology-transfer related matters.

It engages with Export Promotion Councils, Chambers of Commerce & Industry and Industry Associations in promoting common objectives of facilitating trade, investment & technology promotion and provides support to commercial wings abroad in form of resources and information to enable them to carry out their functions in an efficient and effective matter, a statement said.

The division also hosts a website, www.indiainbusiness.nic.in, which gives regular updates on investment, trade and economic policy issues.

It also brings out a weekly and monthly newsletters which are circulated to missions and posts and used by them for disseminating information on developments in India.
