VK Singh fails to appear before J&K panel

Jammu, Jan 9 : Former Army chief Gen V K Singh on Thursday failed to appear before a Privileges Committee of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council over his controversial remarks against political leaders of the state.

Following his absence, fresh summons were issued to him for appearing on Jan 22.

"The committee has decided to issue summons to Singh through the Haryana director general of police (DGP) to appear before the panel on 22nd of this month at 2.30pm. A copy of it had also been send to the speaker of Haryana assembly," member of the Privilege Committee Devender Singh Rana told media after the conclusion of the meeting here.

The Privileges Committee of the council had on Dec 8 issued summons to Singh to appear before it on Thursday, after a privilege motion was moved against him.

He was asked to explain his remarks that politicians in Kashmir were paid by the Army.
