Karunanidhi suspends Alagiri supporters

Chennai, Jan 9 : Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi on Thursday suspended five supporters of his son MK Alagiri from the party.

This came two days after the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister condemned Alagiri's remarks against Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant.

"I said I would be happy if there was an alliance between the DMK and the DMDK. Mr. Alagiri's remarks against my view are not only regrettable but also condemnable," Karunanidhi was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

In an interview to a channel, Alagiri had said he could not consider Vijayakant as a politician as the leader lacked political decency.

In a veiled warning to Alagiri, Karunanidhi also said 'disciplinary actions' will be taken against those party men who would be violating desirable conduct.

He said they would be removed from the party.

Karunanidhi's two sons - Alagiri and M K Stalin - have been against each other for long time and their relationships touched new low after Karunanidhi decided to appoint his younger son Stalin as his political heir.
