Hameed's book "Maulana Azad, Islam And The Indian National Movement" was launched at the Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival (AKLF) 2014 at the Victoria Memorial ground by West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan and Bollywood actor Aamir Khan.
Introducing the book, Syeda Hameed said, "The book portrays Azad who had perhaps given the most liberal interpretation of the Koran where he said that Allah is not only the Lord of the Muslims but every creature on earth."
"Translating Azad has however been the most daunting task of my life because of the unflinching command he had over the Urdu language" she added.
West Bengal Governor M.K.Nrayanan inaugurated the six-day festival in presence of Syeda Hameed, Mayna Bhagat, Director, AKLF, Aamir Khan and other eminent personalities. The AKLF will conclude on Jan 13.
The festival, on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Maulana Azad, is paying a special tribute to the leader and the first Education Minister of the nation.
Quoting lines from an interview given by this leader way back in 1946 a year before independence, Aamir Khan said, "I wish I had met him and known such a great personality who could almost exactly predict whatever took place in the socio-political and socio-economic scenario of India in the later years to come."
