Harris in line to be fastest Oz paceman to take 100 Test scalps since 'Thommo' 40 years ago

Sydney, Jan 8 : Australian Ashes hero Ryan Harris is reportedly in line to become the fastest pace bowler in the history of the country's cricket to take 100 Test wickets since the legendary Jeff Thomson more than 40 years ago.

Harris finished the Ashes whitewash with 22 wickets at 19.3 - taking his career tally to 93 scalps from his 21 Tests and not since Thomson and Dennis Lillee in the 1970s has an Australian quick reached the milestone in 22 Tests or less.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Harris could break the records of Thomson and Lillee if he produces his man-of-the-match-winning efforts at the SCG, where he claimed match figures of 8-61, in his next Test, which would be against South Africa.

The report mentioned that the late-Test debutant, who has fought an ongoing battle with a degenerative knee complaint ever since, has now played nine straight Tests - a remarkable feat considering he had never topped three consecutive Tests before last winter.
