BCCI denies involvement in cricket league

Mumbai, Jan 7 : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday said it was not supporting any private seven-a-side league in the United Arab Emirates.

The Indian cricket board issued the clarification after a leading Indian daily reported that a new seven-a-side corporate cricket league to be called 7PL will be lauinched soon.

"The Times of India, in its issue dated 7 January 2014, has published a report titled 'Unveiled: A new league that will redefine cricket,' about a cricket event to be played in the Middle East. The report mentions that the event has the blessings of the BCCI," BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said in a statement.

"The BCCI wishes to clarify that this is incorrect. The ICC has also clarified that the Emirates Cricket Board has not approved such a tournament," he said.

The newspaper earlier reported that Indian skipper MS Dhoni will be the chief brand ambassador of the league.
