Shopping equally addictive as eating cake

Dubai, January 6 : Experts have found that shopping and eating cake are equally addictive, as both the actions have the same effect on the brain.

Clinical psychologist, Saliha Afridi, told Gulf News that the constant need to make a purchase can turn into an addiction known as compulsive shopping.

Afridi said that for compulsive shoppers, a chemical known as dopamine is released in the brain every time they make a purchase, which is the same chemical that is released whenever we experience something pleasurable like eating dessert.

He added that shopping becomes addiction when a person makes shopping their go-to mechanism to escape from problems and avoid addressing the real issue.
