Minor abducted and raped in Begur district of Karnataka

Begur (Karnataka), Jan.5, : A minor girl was raped in Begur village located on the outskirts of Bangalore on Sunday.

The horrific incident took place as the girl was returning home from school.

Police said the girl is undergoing medical treatment in St. Johna€™s hospital and a case had been registered.

"While she was coming back, some person overpowered her and took her to some place, then sexually assaulted her. The case has been registered. The girl suffered some injuries because of that the parents have taken her to a hospital and right now she is under medical care. We have not been able to talk to the girl. Once we talk to the girl we will come to know the exact details of the incident" said Additional Commissioner of Police Kamal Pant

He added that girl was out of danger and investigations were underway.

Father of nine-year old said the perpetrator had blind folded the girl and took her to some isolated placed where he sexually assaulted her.

"We usually pick her up from school. We live two kilometres away from her school. We got late that day. She decided to walk back home. Suddenly somebody blind-folded her and did this. She returned home in pain. We rushed her to the hospital. We are manual labourers. We can't even afford her treatment," he said.

State Home Minister K.J. George and Commissioner of Police Raghkvendra Auradkar also visited the hospital and met the parents of the victim.

Medical examination has confirmed that she was a sexually assaulted. A case of rape has been registered in the Bangalore police station and the police is looking for the accused who is on a run.

National Commission for Women chairman Mamta Sharma said it was yet another shameful incident and demanded quick action to arrest the culprit.

"But this beginning of such shameful crimes with children and the cases are increasing in number, I believe NCPCR (National Commission for Protection of Child Rights) should also act upon such cases and specially the police should arrest the culprit of this case as soon as possible," she said.
