Bangladesh to host Asia Cup: ACC

Colombo, Jan 4 : The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Saturday said the Asia Cup will be held in Bangladesh next month.

The decision was taken during the meeting of the Executive Board cricketing body in Colombo city on Saturday.

"The Executive Board of the Asian Cricket Council at its meeting in Colombo on January 4th has accepted the bid for broadcast and grounds rights from STAR India Pvt Ltd for the Asia Cup 2014 scheduled to be held in Bangladesh," the ACC said in a statement.

The ACC said it has decided to invite Afghanistan to participate in the Asia Cup 2014.

"Afghanistan will now join Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Afghanistan will be participating in a major ODI tournament for the first time which will give them an opportunity to get the experience of competing in a major tournament ahead of their ICC WT20 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 participation," read the statement.

A total of 11 matches will be played with the opening game on Feb 25 and the final on Mar 8.
