Serena clinches Brisbane title

Brisbane, Jan 4 : US Tennis star Serena Williams defended her Brisbane International title by beating second-ranked Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in the women's singles final here on Saturday.

The world number one defeated Azarenka by 6-4 7-5 in an hour and 38 minutes.

This was Serena's 58th WTA title.

"I feel like I'm being pushed into the deep end straightaway," Williams was quoted as saying to WTA Tour's website.

"I think it's a good thing. In Melbourne if I have to face Maria (Sharapova) again I'll know a little bit more what to expect, and same thing with Victoria. If I happen to play against her in Melbourne, I'll know what to do and what to expect," she said.

Serena defeated Maria in the semi-final to reach the final of the tournament.
