FTS to commemorate 25th anniversary

Kolkata, Jan 4 : The Kolkata Press Club recently hosted a joint session organized by the Friends of Tribal Society (FTS) and the Swami Vivekananda Sardha Sati Samaroha here.

Established on Jan 15, 1989, FTS is a non-government, voluntary social service organization having 27 chapters in all over India, dedicated to the cause of tribal and rural uplift by providing basic education to their children and giving the villagers health care education, development education and empowerment education.

FTS on Tuesday declared its 25th anniversary celebration commemorating the Silver Jubilee of 'Ekal Abhiyan' to be held on Jan 5, 2014 here.

Ekal Abhiyan runs sanskar kendras, health-care education and village development activities among others all over the country.

Swami Vivekananda Sardha Sati Samaroha is a conglomeration of a number of organisations, under the leadership of Vivekananda Kendra, to celebrate 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

The celebration started with observing Samkalp Divas, taking of oath by the Karyakartas on Dec 25, 2012.

The inaugural programme of Swami Vivekananda Sardha Sati Samaroha was held at Siri Fort Auditorium at New Delhi on Jan 11, 2013.

Moreover, on Sept 27 and 28, 2013 a national seminar on 'Swami Vivekananda - Man Making Nation Building Education' was held in Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture.

Speaking on the occasion, Sukamal Chandra Basu, Secretary, Swami Vivekananda Sardha Sati Samaroh Samiti said, "The national programmes were observed with great enthusiasm and participation in our state of West Bengal."

Basu added, "There were large number of camps organized for the youths and couples. During the months of April, May and June, our Karyakartas visited households and distributed pictures of Swamiji and sold books on Swamiji. More than one lakh houses were visited for the same. It was a great experience."
