Ranji: Bengal beat Tamil Nadu by four runs

Chennai, Jan 1 : Bengal spinner Saurasish Lahiri picked up seven wickets to help his side beat Tamil Nadu by four runs and brighten their hopes of reaching the knock-out stage of the Ranji Trophy at MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Wednesday.

Resuming the day at 102 for one, Tamil Nadu lost their remaining wickets for 78 runs on Wednesday as their second innings ended at 180 runs.

Lahiri struck early and picked up the wickets of both S Badrinath (21) and Dinesh Karthik (62) to give the hosts an initial jolt.

B Aparajith put up some resistance by scoring 83-ball 33 runs. He smashed four boundaries and six in his knock.

The remaining batsmen failed to finish the task for Tamil Nadu.

Apart from Lahiri, Writtick Chatterjee took two wickets and Arnab Nandi scalped the wicket of Aparajith.

Bengal had scored 130 and 139 in their respective innings. Tamil Nadu were all out for 85 in their first innings.

Bengal will now hope Rajasthan-Baroda clash to end in a draw.
