India lose Durban Test to South Africa by 10 wickets

Durban, Dec.30, : South Africa beat India by 10 wickets in the second test that was played at the Kingsmead Ground here on Monday.


Chasing just 58 runs for a win, the Proteas scored 59 for no loss to seal the two-match series one nil. For the South Africans, openers Graeme Smith and Alviro Petersen scored unbeaten knocks of 27 and 31 respectively on the fifth and final day of the Test.

Earlier, India, resuming on their overnight score of 68 for the loss of two wickets, could not stand up to the Proteas bowling attack, losing wickets at regular intervals. The only saving grace for the visitors was Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 96, and was the last man out. India folded up for 223 in their second innings.

For the Proteas, Dale Steyn claimed three for 47, Vernon Philander claimed three wickets for 43 runs, while left-arm spinner R. Petersen claimed four wickets for 74 runs.

Rahane struck eleven boundaries and two sixes during his knock of 96, while Cheteshwar Pujara, scored 32 and was the team's second highest scorer with four hits to the fence.

Final scores were as follows: India 334 and 223, and South Africa 500 and 59 for no loss.

The match was umpired by Australians S.J.Davis and Roy Tucker.
