Huge ammunition recovered in Kashmir

By Saleem Iqbal Qadri, Srinagar, Dec 30 : The Indian Army claimed they have recovered a huge cache of weapons from Kupwara division in north Kashmir.

A total of 40 weapons including 20 AK-47 rifles, 20 pistols, magazines and ammunition hidden one kilometer inside the Line of Control (LoC) in the Farkian Gali area of frontier Kupwara division were recovered on Saturday.

Inputs were being received over the last few days by the Army from sources about the likely bid for infiltration or pushing the arms across the LoC.

Accordingly, the troops were put on high alert and searches were being carried out in suspected areas.

While talking to IBNS over phone Lt. Col N.N Joshi, PRO Defense, Srinagar, said, "Search operations were undertaken on Dec 28, which led to the recovery of such a large cache of arms and ammunition from a place which is between the LoC and the Anti Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS)."

He also said that the whole area was put on alert as there was possibility of infiltration from the Pakistani side.

"We are in full control to tackle any type of infiltration at the LoC and anywhere in Kashmir," said Joshi.
