Train catches fire in Andhra, 23 killed

Hyderabad, Dec 28 : At least 23 people were killed and over 12 others were injured when an AC coach of the Bangalore-Nanded Express train caught fire early Saturday near Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.


"So far we have reports of 23 deaths. The toll may go up," said Additional Divisional Railway Manager Sunanda Arun.

The train was on its way from Karnataka's Bangalore city to Nanded in Maharashtra when it caught fire around 3.15 am.

According to reports, there were about 54 passengers in the B1 compartment of the train.

Reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
