NHRC issues notices to Karnataka Police

New Delhi, Dec 26 : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday issued notices to the Karnataka Police over not releasing six prisoners from Gulbarga Jail in Karnataka who have served their sentences for 14 years.

"The National Human Rights Commission has taken cognizance of complaints that six prisoners have not been released from the Gulbarga Jail, Karnataka even after completing their sentence for 14 years," the Commission said in a statement on Thursday.

The NHRC has issued notices to the Director General (Prisons) and Superintendent, Gulbarga Jail, Karnataka calling for a report within 15 days.

"Allegedly, the prisoners are Gurmeet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Shamsher Singh, Lal Singh, Wariam Singh and Gurdeep Singh Khaira. They were serving sentence for murder charges," read the statement.
