Former German Vice-Chancellor joins WEF

Geneva, Switzerland, Dec 23 : The World Economic Forum (WEF) announced that Philipp Rosler, the former German Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Economics and Technology, is joining the Forum as Managing Director and member of the Managing Board.


"We are delighted to welcome Philipp Rosler into our leadership team. His career is remarkable, serving and driving the government of one of the world's biggest economies during the past years. Dr Rosler's expertise and experience will be very valuable to further develop the World Economic Forum as the foremost platform for public-private cooperation," said Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum.

"I am very happy to be joining the World Economic Forum," said Philipp Rosler. "It has a great philosophy: bringing stakeholders together and motivating people to solve pressing global challenges."

Philipp Rosler has been active in German politics from a young age. From 2011 he was Chairman of the Free Democratic Party. He held government office as Germany's Minister of Economics and Technology and Vice-Chancellor from May 2011 until December 2013. From October 2009, he was Minister of Health.

He is a qualified doctor, and prior to his government posts, he served as a medical officer in the German army. He earned his doctorate in cardio-thoracic-vascular surgery in 2002.

Philipp Rosler has been engaged in important issues in the German health system and played a key role in Chancellor Angela Merkel's cabinet, driving forward Germany's economic agenda.

He was nominated a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader in 2010, and has been a participant on several occasions at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos.

He is married and has two daughters.
