Aakash Aath won't air Taslima's project

Kolkata, Dec 19 : Recently launched television channel GEC (General Entertainment Channel) Aakash Aath on Thursday said it deferred the telecast of mega serial 'Dusahobas', the first ever television project based on the works of noted writer and feminist Taslima Nasreen.

"Although Aakash Aath is willing and is ready to commence the telecast of Dusahobas today at 10pm as was envisaged but due to reasons beyond the purview and control of Aakash Aath we may be forced to defer the telecast of this serial indefinitely," said a spokesperson of Aakash Aath.

"Please note that this serial was based on 'Women Empowerment' and had nothing to do with any religion or community whatsoever. Kindly bear with us and keep watching the channel for further updates on this serial," he said.

The programme was to be premiered on Thursday at 10 pm on Aakash Aath and be aired every week from Monday to Saturday at the same time thereafter.

The story indulges in portraying the protesting spirit of a woman rather than bringing forth the darker side of women tolerating the atrocities showered upon them.

"It talks about chivalrous women, women who fight back rather than she who patiently stand oppression," Taslima had said revealing the storyline.

Speaking on the occasion Taslima said, "Television is perhaps the most popular mass medium of today and this remains the sole opportunity for me to reach the people of Bengal. As a writer I don't need to stay there in person, all I need is to dwell in the minds of people through my creations."

"The shooting for the serial started years back when I used to stay in Kolkata around 2006-07. But the sudden turn of events following the political move in asking me to abandon the soils of Bengal, had unfortunately held up all efforts in the making of the serial," she added.
