Raima launches 'Sumona Couture'

Kolkata, Dec 13 : Translating her experience and knowledge from designing fine jewellery to fine clothing, designer Sumona Parekh on Friday launched Sumona Couture, her first exclusive designer studio in Kolkata and unveiled her exquisite 'Spring Bridal 2014' collection.

Located at Topsia Road in Kolkata, the 5,500 square feet boutique store and workshop was inaugurated by actress Raima Sen.

The studio will offer a collection of Indian bridal wear and wedding apparels, inspired by beautiful frames from the nature.

Sumona's 'Spring Bridal' line has been derived from flora, blended with traditional craftsmanship and contemporary designs.

Commenting on Sumona's design, Raima said, "Sumona's designs are so fresh and striking. The nature inspired designs - the floral motifs and pastel colours give the collection a different feel. The silhouettes are classic and any bride who adorns these will surely feel every inch a queen herself. I personally loved the concept and feel that this wedding line truly complements the aspiration of today's modern bride. I wish Sumona all the very best."

Speaking on the occasion, designer Sumona Parekh, said "It gives me great delight to bring to my patrons, my designer label 'Sumona Couture'. I have tried to bring the romance of my jewellery motifs into my clothing line. The wonder of filigree work with its flower and leaf motif and magic of paisley is distinctive in my clothes.

Keeping in mind that 'spring brides' are around the corner, we have chosen wearer and climate friendly georgettes, chiffons and nets to create the lenhengas, with soft pastel colours inspired from blossoms of nature. The designs and cuts are such that one can wear their lehenga in a different manner by changing the chunri or just wearing the skirt with a plain top. Each piece is wearable separately and together."

She said, "We believe the modern bride would like to blend her family traditions with her own personal outlook which is more modern and maybe less fussy. So you will find a spring- orange blossom nestled between a vibrant red and muted cream or beige."

Commenting on Sumona's design, Raima shared, "Sumona's designs are so fresh and striking.

Talking about her upcoming plans, Sumona said, "The heavier silks and brocades will debut as we arrive the fall of 2014. The colours will have the traditional reds of weddings but we have also drawn on a lighter colour palate as we believe our Indian brides are becoming less typical and more inspirational. And since jewellery designing has always been my first passion, I am also working on an exclusive silver jewellery line, which will be launched soon."

Apart from a pret line, Sumona Couture will offer customized and tailored wedding trousseau for the bride and also for the groom and family.
