Bandra rape accused sent to judicial custody
A local court on Wednesday sent the key accused in Mumbai's Bandra rape case was to judicial custody.
Police on Wednesday had said they have arrested a man for allegedly raping and robbing a 27-year-old Spanish woman in Bandra area of suburban Mumbai.
The man was identified as Mohammed Anwar Ansari alias Badsha.
The police nabbed Ansari from Reay Road area in the city.
Ansari was earlier arrested for breaking into Bollywod actor Dino Morea's Bandra house in October, reports said.
The victim, who resides in an upscale housing society in Bandra area of suburban Mumbai, was allegedly raped and robbed at knife point in the wee hours of Monday.
According to police, the incident occurred early in the morning between 3-30 and 4-30 am when a burglar entered her apartment on the Perry Cross Road through the window and caught the woman unawares.
The woman was in her sleep when the robber entered the apartment. Her room mate was away in Kerala.
The accused robbed her of valuables like foreign currencies, cameras and handycams and also raped her, the complaint said.
The victim is a musician by profession.
The victim herself came to Bandra police station and lodged the complaint following which she was taken to a hospital for medical examination.
Media reports said the terrified woman had been hiding in a toilet for over an hour after she was raped fearing for her life.
Mumbai, a city considered safe for girls, recently witnessed a series of attack on women, including one in which a young lawyer was brutally killed by an avenging watchman after she rebuked him for stalking her for days.
