Police baton charge protesting students of Osmania University
Clash erupted between the students of Osmania University and police following a protest demonstration on Wednesday, a day after a student committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree near the Arts College on the Osmania University campus.
Yesterday's incident led to unrest and sporadic violence on Wednesday and in order to maintain peace police fired tear gas and baton charged the protesters.
V. Santosh, a B.Sc. student at the Saraswathi College at Tukkaguda, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, in a suicide note expressed frustration in the delay on the formation of Telangana and blamed the ruling government for the delay.
The shocking incident, in front of the iconic college building, deepened tensions on the campus when belligerent students clashed with police as they tried to take the body out in a funeral procession.
The four decade old demand for Telangana, which is to be carved out of the economically less developed part of Andhra Pradesh, gathered momentum after the Congress party led UPA accepted the demand in principle.
