No contravention of Competition Act by Yash Raj Films: CCI
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has held that there has been no contravention of the provisions of the Competition Act by the alleged agreement between Yash Raj Films Private Limited and its various associated enterprises.
The CCI passed its order in the case filed by Ajay Devgn Films against Yash Raj Films Private Limited.
The informant in this case, Ajay Devgn Films, stated that the agreement entered into between Yash Raj Films Private Limited and single screen film exhibitors at the time of releasing its film Ek Tha Tiger was anti-competitive.
Ajay Devgn, owner of Ajay Devgn Films, had accused Yash Raj Films of using its dominant position to edge his film 'Son Of Sardaar' out of competition.
Ajay Devgn alleged that his film was not finding enough single screen theatres.
'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' starring Shah Rukh Khan, produced by Yash Raj Films and Ajay Devgn's 'Son Of Sardaar' is going to be released on November 13.
Ajay Devgn's production house claims Yash Raj Films has forced distributors to keep 'Son Of Sardaar' out of theaters.
Yash Raj Films has said that they have booked less than 1,500 single screens out of the 10,500-plus single screens available on all-India basis.
At the other side Ajay claimed that this is not true because out of the 10,000-12,000 screens more than 5,000-6,000 are in South India, where only regional films release.
