The Punjab Government has earmarked Rs 6039 crore to provide water supply and sewerage facility to the 100 per cent urban population of the state.
The work on this project had already been started and the target would be achieved within one year, Local Bodies Minister Chunni Lal Bhagat said in a statement here today.
He said under this project till date Rs 4014 crore had been allocated by SAD-BJP Government and added that 88 per cent of the urban population had been covered under water supply whereas 63 per cent of the urban population was having sewerage facility.
"SAD-BJP Government is committed to upgrading the basic amenities to the urban populations so the remaining population in the urban areas would soon be covered with water supply and sewerage", the minister said.
