The rupee rose today by 17 paise to 54.44 against the US Dollar due to sell-off of the greenback by banks and exporters, dealers at the Interbank Foreign Exchange said.
The domestic unit, which had slid by 80 paise yesterday, fell further by 17 paise in the opening session. But later, it recovered to end at 54.44, up by 17 paise as compared to its last close.
The rupee registered the day's high and low at 54.78 and 54.35 per USD, respectively, with a major fluctuation.
The Indian currency recovered today owing to weak Dollar overseas against other major world currencies and positive equity market also supported the rupee sentiment, the dealers added.
