Court rejects bail plea of prime accused in Azad Maidan riots case
A local court today rejected the bail plea moved by Salim Allahrakha Chaukiya (24), a prime accused in the Azad Maidan riot case.
Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Parkash Rathod rejected the plea on the grounds that prima facie materials were available against him.
Chaukiya was nabbed from Jogeshwari (West) by the Oshiwara Police after they circulated among the 93 police stations in the city a 'documentary' of close circuit TV recordings and images of those who had participated in the violence.
In his statement to the Crime Branch, Chaukiya said he came to the rally and was among the miscreants who indulged in violence.
Chaukiya has allegedly confessed to snatching the weapon from a police personnel. A broken SLR was found in the vicinity of Azad Maidan. Officers said they were probing if it was the same SLR that Chaukiya had snatched.
Besides him, the court also rejected the bail plea of a recently arrested accused Faisal A.
