Maharashtra Govt to implement new scheme of nutritious food

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today said the government will implement a scheme of providing nutritious food to kids below two years of age and their mothers from November 14 this year till April 2013.

Speaking at a function here organised by International Institute of Population Science (IIPS), he said the scheme will be implemented with the help of local bodies like municipal councils and municipal corporations.

Mr Chavan said the care will be taken from the pregnancy days till the child completes two years. In all, the nutritious food will be served to mother and child for nearly 1,000 days, he said.

He added that the percentage of malnourishment in Maharashtra is gradually decreasing due to the improvement in condition of nourishment.
