16-point plan will be adopted if NDA comes to power: Naidu
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today said it will implement 16-point action plan for the benefit of farming community in the country if BJP-led NDA come to power.
Addressing a press conference here after inaugurating BJP Kisan Morcha (Southern States) Farmers Conclave held on 'Cost of Cultivation with Profitable Price' here, party's senior leader and MP M Venkaiah Naidu said unless timely steps were taken agriculture will plunge into deep crisis resulting in food crisis and suggested certain steps to be taken for preventing migration from agriculture.
"Forty 40 per cent of the farmers do not want to continue their farming due to anti-farmer policies of the central government," Mr Naidu claimed and said if the farmers continued to migrate from farming, the country would face a major 'food crisis'.
Suggesting the 16-point action plan should be discussed in the seminar to save agriculture, he said India should be declared as 'One Food Zone' by removing all restrictions on food grain movement and introducing crop insurance for every farmer with a low premium, additional premium to be borne by the state and central governments.
Export of all food grains to be allowed and encouraged while keeping the national requirements plus 25 per cent buffer stock, he said.
He advocated for creation of infrastructure like education, health care and transport in the rural areas to stop farmers migration.
"It is a national shame and challenge to the political leadership of the country farmers' suicides were continuing unabated," he said.
He said FDI in retail would harm the farmers. The Multi National Companies (MNCs) would initially give attractive prices but later dictate market prices, he claimed.
