Kotananduru mandal remain cut off

Kotananduru mandal in East Godavari district remains cut off from other areas due to breaching of roads at several stretches flooding vast areas.

Boats were pressed into service to provide relief to the flood-affected people all over the mandal.

Collector Neethu Kumary, while reviewing the flood situation with the district officials at an emergency meeting at the Collectorate here today, said the incessant rains during the past four days had disrupted normal life in the district and standing crops in an area of 1.36 lakh hectares were inundated and the loss was being enumerated.

She said the loss to the infrastructure was estimated to be around Rs 20 crore. She asked the officials to restore the damaged infrastructure on war footing.

Several culverts, roads and electrical installations including substations, transformers and overhead lines were badly affected due to floods.

Several villages were reeling under darkness and even drinking water supply was affecte. Every effort should be made to prevent outbreak of epidemic and the medical and health staff available to the people at all primary health centers, Ms Kumary added.
