Normalcy returned to the old city Andhra Pradesh today where minor incidents of violence were reported following rumours of attempt to expand a place of worship adjacent to Charminar.

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma said the situation was normal and 35 persons were taken into custody for alleged involvement in the incidents yesterday.

The police commissioner asked the people not to believe rumours and not become panic.

Although some educational institutions in the old city remained closed, the markets of Charminar opened this afternoon. The traffic was normal and the APSRTC bus services too had regular operations.

However, mild tension prevailed in some sensitive areas where the additional police pickets have been deployed.

One policeman was injured when members of two groups pelted stones at each other at Shahali Banda near Charminar yesterday night. The miscreants also damaged six police vehicles, an ATM and a few shops.
