The proposed Third Front will emerge in time for the next Lok Sabha elections as a viable alternative to Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party at the national level, Elango Yadav, President of the Tamil Nadu state unit of the Samajwadi Party said today.
Addressing a press conference here, he said party's national president Mulayam Singh Yadav was mobilising the support of like-minded parties for forming the front.
He said a two-day state conference of the party will be held at Madurai on Januyary 21 and 22, in which Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav and other national leaders of SP, including Ramgopal Yadav, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akilesh Yadav and others would participate.
During the proposed conference, Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav will announce the party's alliance formula in Tamil Nadu to face the Lok Sabha electiosns successfully , he also announced.
Mr Elango alleged that Chief Minister J Jayalaithaa had failed to handle the present power crisis. Due to this 16 hours of power cut was prevailing in the state.
He also took strong exceptionto Ms Jayalalithaa's attitude of adopting a belligerent posturing against the Centre and moving the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Centre for allocating additional power from the central pool.
'Instead of approaching the Supreme Court, Ms Jayalalithaa could have sent an all party delegation from TamiL Nadu to convince the Union Government in this regard, he opined.
