Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayaalithaa today announced release of water from the Amaravathy, Vaigai and Periyar dams for irrigation.
In a statement here, she said following requests from farmers in Tiruppur and Karur, water would be released from the Amaravathy dam from tomorrow for irrigation.
This would benefit about 29,387 hectares of farmlands.
She said the Vaigai dam would be opened for irrigation from November 9 which would benefit 1,50,043 hectares in Madurai, Sivaganga and Dindigul districts.
The Chief Minister said Periyar dam in Theni district will be opened for irrigation purposes from November nine for irrigating 5,146 hectares of agricultural lands.
