Following failure of monsoon, cloud seeding was taken up in the Cauvery Basin areas by the Agriculture Aero-Sports Adventure Academy Private Limited (AASAA) at the request from the Karnataka Government.
Speaking to newspersons here today, Chief Pilot, Capt Anand Sharma, said that cloud seeding may increase the rainfall by about 20 per cent. The cloud seeding activity is being undertaken by the organizations near Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir.
He said that cloud seeding was being done in the state from October 17 and would go on till November 15. It has been done at the basins of Rivers Harangi, Kabini, Cauvery and Hemvathi.
The ideal period for the operation was June to December and the process involves precipitation enhancement using certain salts in rain bearing clouds which need saturation. However, owing to the drifting of the clouds the region of rainfall may be in the vicinity of five km of the operation, he added.
