Badal slams Centre for not fixing MSP of wheat

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said the Congress-led UPA government had repeated its "notorious history of anti-farmer stance" by not fixing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) on the wheat crop.

Talking to the mediapersons here on the sidelines of a Mega Health camp, the Chief Minister said this reflected the sheer insensitivity of the Central government towards the issues pertaining to the farmers of the country in general and those of Punjab in particular.

He said before taking such an illogical decision, the leaders of UPA government should have peeped into their conscience to see how they had brought the beleaguered peasantry of the state on the brink of economic disaster by hiking the cost of agricultural inputs.

Mr Badal said the UPA leaders owed an answer to the farmers as to how much increase in the prices of diesel and fertilisers had been made by them in their regime starting from 2004.

The Chief Minister reiterated that non-fixation of MSP on wheat spoke volumes of Congress led UPA government's complete insensitivity and its apathetic attitude towards the plight of the beleaguered farmers who were already in distress due to low returns on their produce despite exorbitant cost of agricultural inputs incurred by them.
