Train services between Ernakulam and Shornur, which were disrupted since yesterday evening following a landslip near the railway track in Chalakkudy, was restored today, thanks to the hectic work by 200-odd workers over 18 hours non-stop work.
According to railway sources, the incident occurred under a railway track near Southern College, where the railway had been constructing an underground passage to facilitate traffic movement between Chalakudy and Mala.
The landslide occurred around 1530 hrs when workers were trying to put large concrete blocks under the line for the underground passage.
Due to the landslip, the railways had to retain many long distance trains in different stations or delay their starting from their originating stations, which caused hardship to the passengers.
Though the traffic was restored today morning, the train speed had been regulated to 20 km per hour in the area, the sources added.
