All Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will have Braille marking and all polling booths will have at least one copy of Braille ballot paper for the visually challenged voters during the December elections to Gujarat legislative assembly.
While addressing a function to create awareness among persons with disabilities about importance of exercising franchise at Blind People's Association here yesterday, District Collector Vijay Nehra said all polling booths would be accessible to persons with disabilities. He requested the participants to motivate others also to cast vote. He appreciated efforts of Blind People's Association in promoting voting awareness among the people.
Ajay Shah, Director, Rural Development Agency appealed to all people with disabilities to get themselves enrolled as voters and avail this opportunity of casting vote. He said special arrangements were being made to enable persons with disabilities to cast their vote independently.
Association's executive director Bhushan Punani said about two per cent of the voters in Gujarat are persons with disabilities.
About 350 persons with disabilities, students, trainees and staff of the organization attended the programme.
