Microsoft faces patent infringement lawsuit over 'live tiles' in Windows 8
A small technology company based in Portland has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against software Microsoft over the 'live tiles' feature included in its latest operating system Windows 8.
SurfCast filed the complaint on Tuesday in a US District Court in Portland asking for unspecified damages.
The lawsuit claims Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft is using elements known as live tiles, rectangular icons linked to websites, apps and other items.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, SurfCast claimed that it had developed the elements in the 1990s.
The lawsuit claimed that Microsoft is using the tiles technology Windows 8, which is found on personal computers, phones, tablets and other devices.
According to the report, Microsoft is confident that it can prove the claims are without merit.
