Vedant Resources Chairman Anil Agarwal today said Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has assured him to provide raw material for its 1MTPA Vedant Alumina Limited (VAL) Refinery plant at Lanjigarh in Kalahandi district to keep the plant operational.
Mr Agarwal, who called on Mr Patnaik at his secretariat office here this evening told newspersons after the meeting that the Chief Minister was very serious and keen to help 'us' and we are very much optimistic about it.' He said during the meeting they apprised the Chief Minister that the state government had promised to provide raw material for the VAL plant and requested him to provide bauxite on priority basis to run the plant.
The Vedant Resources chairman said they did not have any problem on whetehr the government provided the raw material from Niyamgiri or from any other place.
Mr Agarwal said as many as 7,000 people were working in the plant and 90 per cent of them were local people.He said due to want of raw material thew VAL was forced to shut down the plant for nine days. The refinery was now running only after some raw materials were procured from outside.
Mr Agarwal said bauxite was badly needed for the refinery to run otherwise the plant would be closed.
He said the company was badly affected and not able to pay even the interest it had brorrowed for the setting up of the lanjigarh plant.
