Moving from the Ministry of Defence after his recent elevation, M M Pallam Raju on Wednesday assumed the charge of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Soon after, Raju took a meeting with senior officials from the Ministry in which he spelt out his vision and priorities.
Later addressing the media in a brief interaction, the Minister said he would consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor, and complete the unfinished tasks.
Saying that India has always had a culture where teachers and parents were held in respect, he stressed on the need for a value-based education system so that the younger generation does not lose sight of the country's rich cultural heritage.
"Moral fibre should not go out of focus in education," said Raju.
He said the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) constitutes the building blocks of the universalisation of education
Raju was first elected to Parliament in 1989 and was the youngest MP in the 9th Lok Sabha.
Re-elected to the 14th Lok Sabha in 2004 and 15th Lok Sabha in 2009, he was Minister of State for Defence (Raksha Rajya Mantri (RRM)) in the Council of Ministers.
He is a Member of Parliament from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.
Raju studied Electronics and Communications Engineering from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and holds an MBA from Temple University, Philadelphia, USA.
