40 security personnel escape in landmine blast in Odisha
Around 40 security personnel had a providential escape as a land mine planted by the Maoists exploded near Eragunda under Kalimela Police station soon after the jawans crossed the spot.
Malkangiri District Superintendent of Police Akhileswar Singh said the Jawans including personnel of the BSF and the local police were returning to Kalimela after clearing the Kalimela-Gamhua road road blocked by the Maoists with big trees when the incident occurred.
Massive combing operation was on to nab the Maoists, the SP said.
The ultras had torched a heavy machine used for construction work and damaged some other equipments and construction materials at MPV-22 near Kangrukonda on Saturday night last The equipments were kept at the site where the Rural Development Department was constructing a bridge.
As per the reports around 50 Maoists raided the site, asked the workers to leave the place and then set the equipments on fire before damaging other the construction materials.
A day earlier the Maoist had killed a village head identiied as Pandu Madkami by slitting his throat at Parsanpalli village under Padia Police station in Malkangiri district branding him as police informer.
