The BJP today said the coming assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh would be a referendum on the Cong-led UPA government at the Centre.
Talking to reporters here, BJP national spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy claimed that the mandate of the people in these two states would be against the UPA and in favour of the BJP. "The people do not want corrupt leaders and they would definitely go in for electing honest leaders in the polls," said Mr Rudy while addressing a press conference here before leaving for Himachal Pradesh for election campaign.
Observing that the BJP would run its governments on the model of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, he wondered whose model would be followed by the Congress. "Will the Congress follow the model of the Manmohan Singh government or Sheila Dikshit government?" He said Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal had ensured good governance in the state during the past five years. On the other hand, the previous Congress government in the state had snatched various facilities from the people instead of giving them new facilities. Mr Rudy also alleged that the UPA government had always acted with discrimination against Himachal Pradesh. It had always meted out a step-motherly treatment not only to Himachal Pradesh but also other states ruled by non-Congress governments.
