Odisha moots comprehensive security plan for religious shrines
As many as 52 religious shrines which included temples, mosques, churches and other holy destinations in Odisha have been enlisted to be covered under Comprehensive Security Plans for strengthening security arrangements State Chief Secretary B K Pattnaik today advised Police Administration to prepare the plan within a month with inputs form the religious institutions while presiding over State Level Security Committee Meeting at the secretariat here today.
Principal Secretary Home U N Behera who outlined the issues for discussions said prominent monuments to be covered under the plan are Shree Jagannath Temple Puri, Shree Lingaraj Temple, Bhubnaeswar, Sun Temple Konark, Nilamadhaba Temple, Kantilo, Samaleswari Temple, Sambalpur, Tarini Temple Ghatgaon, Bhgabati Temple Banapur, Chandi Mandir, Cuttack,Kapilash Temple, Dhenkanal, Harisankar Temple, Bolangir, Iscon, Bhubnaeswar.
This apart the Mosque at old station road Rourkela, Baptist Church, Cuttack, Mosque at Nala Road Rourkela, Kadam Rasool, Cuttack, Church,Cantonment Road, Cuttack,Catholic Church, Rourkela, Catholic and Baptist Churches, Phulbani, Old Gurudwars at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Rourkela, Taratarini Temple Ganjam and Akhndalamani Temple at Aradi of Bhadrakh district were also covered under the plan.
The review meetign revealed that the security arrangements for Sri Jagannath Temple have been strengthened with upgrading of the Temple Out Post to a Police Station with total sanctioned strength of 264 personnel in different ranks.
The security staff has also been provided with modern gadgets and weapons. It has been decided in the meeting that movable barricades will be installed in front of singhadwar for facilitating smooth passage of devotees and security checks.
