Rajasthan 'A' were 228 for 8 at stumps against formidable Punjab 'A' on the opening day in the ongoing Col C K Nayudu Trophy (Under-25) at Dhruve Pandove Cricket Stadium here today.
Winning the toss, Rajasthan opted to bat first on a placid wicket, but made a disastrous start as it lost an early wicket.
P Sharma and Sourabh Chouhan, nevertheless, made amends to stitch a healthy partnership for the second wicket of 130 runs.
P Sharma showed a lot of pluck to score 81, facing 136 balls. He hit 15 boundaries and a six in his scintillating innings. His partner, Sourabh Chouhan, too played with great determination and perseverance to score 75 runs in his 262 minutes of stay at the wicket, facing 224 balls. He hit 11 fours.
But, after both fell, Rajasthan crumbled like a pack of cards and were 228 for 8 at close of play. The running between the wickets was shabby as two batsmen were unnecessarily run out to add to Rajasthan's misery.
For Punjab, only Gurinder and Yogesh Kumar impressed with the ball as they captured 6 wickets between themselves.
Gurinder captured 4 wickets, conceding 51 runs, while Yogesh Kumar bagged 2 wickets, giving away 70 runs.
If Punjab bowl well tomorrow to restrict Rajasthan to below 250, they would be much contended.
