Gujarat's cotton production this year is expected to be 70 to 80 lakh bales owing to delayed monsoon as compared to previous year's 120 lakh bales, says Saurashtra Ginners Association President Bharatbhai Vala here today.
Speaking at the fifth Annual General meeting here at Hemu Gadhvi Auditorium hall, he said in Gujarat cotton production was less compared to last year, but in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, cotton production was expected to be more compared to last year and about 80 lakh bales each in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. 10 to 20 lakh Cotton bales are expected more in these two states this year.
Cotton production this year is expected to be nearly 3.40 crore bales compared to last year's production of 3.57 crore bales, he said.
With a view to pitching their demands in an organized way, the President urged the members of Ginners association of Saurashtra to stand united to solve the problems.
Jasdan constituency BJP MLA, Dr Bharatbhai Bogra, Saurashtra Oil Millers Association (SOMA) Samirbhai Shah and other speakers spoke on the occasion.
