Demarcation of wards for Panchayat polls by Jan 31
Punjab Rural Development and Pancahyat Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra has issued directions to complete the demarcation of wards for Pancahyat election by January 31 as the Panchayat polls are to be held before May 31.
Presiding over a high-level meeting here today, Mr Rakhra said that for the first time in Punjab, the Panchayat elections would be conducted through wards and every ward would elect its Panch whereas the Sarpanch would be elected through direct poll.
He also issued directions to the officers to complete preliminary arrangements for the elections in time.
The Minister said that employees of department were being sensitised about the procedure of conducting elections through wards so that there must not be any objections in the folk.
He said that in every village minimum of five and maximum 13 wards would be demarcated.
