A two-day international conference on Women, Peace and Security will be held at Punjabi University Campus here from October 26.
The conference is being organised by Women's Studies Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala, in academic collaboration with Centre for Women Global Leadership, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, US, and PHDRE, US.
The inaugural function will be presided over by Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh while the inaugural address will be delivered by Anne F. Stenhammer, Regional Programme Director, UN Women in South Asia and Dr Govind Kelkar, Senior Advisor, Rural Development Institute, New Delhi.
Dr Manju Verma, Director of the Centre, elaborating on the theme said that women can play a significant role in peacemaking, if they are properly supported and genuinely included in the decision-making process.
She said that the inclusion of women's perspectives in peace efforts is critical to ensure that the needs of local populations are understood in planning and implementing everlasting peace but all over the world, women are facing security dilemmas not only in conflict situations but also in their day to day lives, which threatens peace.
More than 500 delegates from national and international institutes, universities and colleges are expected to participate.
