Mohanlal to be conferred with Honorary Black belt of Taekwondo
The Kukkiwon, world Taekwondo Headquarters, Seuol, Korea, has decided to confer Malyalam film actor and Padmashree awardee Mohanlal with Honorary Black belt of Taekwondo.
Informing this at a news conference, Taekwondo Association of Kerala (TAKE) General Secretary B Aji said a information in this regard was received stating that that Mr Lal has been chosen for the black belt in recognition to his individual contribution and achievements in various fields.
He was the third Indian receiving the Honorary black belt, after Hindi Film star Shah Rukh Khan and Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lal Thanhawla, he said, adding the award would help the state improve the popularity of Taekwondo in the state.
Since the goal of Taekwondo in Kerala was to produce a gold medallist in the Olympics as there were lot of chances to win the same, such award to a leading personality would help the youths get attracted to the martial art and won the gold medal.
Earlier, the actor had in 2009 became the first actor to be given the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army and in 2010 received an honorary doctorate from Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kerala.
