BSE Sensex edges higher on blue chips
The BSE Sensex fell 0.21 percent on Monday, as hopes of robust quarterly results lifted heavyweights and under-performing sectors climbed on positive outlook.
The 30-share benchmark index ended 38.37 points higher at 18,713.55 with 18 of its components closing in the green.
The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 0.20 percent or 11.20 points higher at 5,687.25 on Monday.
Gains in heavyweight stocks managed to offset the disappointment over higher inflation data that hurt prospects of rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) later this month.
Meanwhile in the New Delhi bullion market, gold fell by Rs 125 to Rs. 31,515 per 10 grams while silver shed Rs 200 to end at Rs 60,300 per kg.
